These abstract seascapes in mixed media were the results during a very enjoyable workshop with artist Ruth Gillbanks which was held at the amazing venue of Cornwall School of Art. I am keen to introduce a more abstract style to some of my painting and thought the time spent in this workshop would be well worth it. I wasn’t disappointed. I really admire Ruth’s ability to interpret landscapes in varying degrees of abstraction. Her results are beautiful. Images that take you on a journey of curiosity. I didn’t want to try and replicate her style so much as to use her thought processes to influence how I paint. Since she is a teacher by profession as well as an artist, it’s no surprise then she is an excellent but also very generous tutor. These were painted using mixed media of watercolour, acrylics and oil pastel. All in all it was a great day and I am really pleased with what I came away with on canvas and in my head.
