Broken Light

Description

One of my favourite parts of Cornwall is Penwith. The north and south coasts have beautiful coves, beaches and spectacular rocky coastal scenery. This painting is based on a reference photograph which I took on a coastal walk between Porthgwarra and Lands End in mid Summer. There are numerous views out to sea along the coastal path which are framed by granite stacks and boulders that form the magnificent cliffs. It is a beautiful wild stretch of coastline particularly in summer when the proliferation of skylarks and other birds, flowers and warm sea air flood your senses with wellbeing . This was such a day. It is a little naive as many of my paintings are but I don’t apologise for using colour in attempt at capturing the experience of being there.
