Description

I completed this painting last year after a lovely a short break on the Lizard peninsula in early spring. The weather was superb to begin with and the first evening gave a magnificent mackerel sky at sunset, during which the Lizard Lighthouse switched on its beacon.

I decided to revisit this piece because the original seemed overly dark in tone and I wasn’t entirely happy with the lighthouse and its beacon which is why I hadn’t included it in the gallery. It is a difficult scene to capture because it is a fleeting moment not just for the sky but also for the sea which takes on a mysterious luminosity. I’m not entirely happy with it but I do think it’s an improvement on the original. Time to move on to another day.
